Brick by Brick – A Journey Into The Bear and Bull NFT

As with most NFT projects, it started with a random tweet from a friend with a competition sometime in March 2023. The artwork caught my eye immediately and there was an opportunity to become whitelisted. Jumping into the Discord I was greeted with an extremely warm welcome and reception. The discord was rocking and things were being given away left, right and center. A $10 rumble here, a WL there. The project was giving to its community from the outset and not asking for a single thing in return. All of this activity quickly led up to the first mint:

The Bear and Bull NFT: AlphaPass. 333 bears, all with this stunning artwork and incredible detail. Mint price – FREE and available to all with a WL that would be handed out by the 20 carefully chosen Dao One members. The mint went down without a hitch on March 31^st and the FP for the bears quickly rose to an ATH of over 0.5ETH. At the time of writing the floor is sitting at 0.3ETH.

Shortly after, the first Bear and Bull track dropped. Bradley Bielby, an unknown artist from the UK, got us all boppin’ our heads with his laid-back flow. Cryptoequip was blessing a random bear holder with prizes every week, the ETHTER Bunny paid everybody a visit, dope IRL BBNFT coins and cards were gifted to the community, and a mysterious Gateway Pass was announced. This was priced at 0.0012ETH with one random holder slated to be gifted 2 ETH + 90% of the mint total, but hints of further utility were dropped. 1024 passes were minted and the lucky winner walked away with a whopping 3 ETH!!! More tracks dropped, more FIRE! Cryptoequip flew Bradley Bielby out to a remote island to film the next music video. Tuning into various spaces and listening to Discord conversations, more and more stories of Cryptoequip’s generosity filtered down. Definitely a legend and all the while everybody asked the same question ‘Who IS Cryptoequip’?? Who is this guy or girl blessing people left, right and canter!?!?! May rolled around and everybody prepared for the next mint:

BBNFT Phase Blue. 333 Bulls at a mint price of 0.005 ETH. It was clear Cryptoequip was intent on making the mints affordable for all walks of life. The excitement was palpable! Those who had missed out on a Bear were determined not to miss out on a Bull! The mint sold out in under 5 minutes even with PEPE pushing gas to ridiculous highs. And shortly thereafter, the faction wars began… 4 weeks of 4 hourly rumbles with ETH prizes EVERY rumble and a major Connect 4 showdown between the leaders in each faction at the end of each week with 0.1 ETH going to the winners. Now, how do I explain to my non-Web3 friends I just won $150 playing Connect 4? Hmmmmm. The ultimate showdown between factions ended with one lucky winner walking away with 1 ETH and various NFTs. Focus then shifted to the next collection that was dropping:

Bourey vs Bulley: Bourverse. 333 VRM ready metaverse avatars at 0.01 ETH, to be used in the newly created BBNFT metaverse AKA The Bourverse. 3 months into the project and we’re building a metaverse!?!?! Remember those Gateway Passes where further utility had been hinted at? The mint WL was restricted to only holders with either a Bear and a GP or a Bull and a GP. Shortly before the Bourey vs Bulley mint in mid-June, a sneaky limited edition avatar collection was dropped unannounced. 50 Mr. Anderson avatars at a mint price of 0.05 ETH. And shortly after the Bourey vs Bulley mint, another surprise avatar collection was released:

The Poopening. 461 piles of POOP avatars to run around the Bourverse in. A lot of Bourverse related fun ensued throughout July with lots of exploration activity and a lightsaber battle for ETH being one of the definite highlights. Copperstone Band dropped the Bear and Bull EP providing the soundtrack to all the Bourverse fun!

In August Cryptoequip flipped the script entirely and dropped YUGE alpha – utility, utility, utility! The AP Bears would all accrue Alpha Points with 40 Alpha Points accruing each quarter on each bear and transferable 1:1 to USDC. Interestingly this was to be achieved through a novel mechanism where the metadata in each bear would be updated every 10-12 weeks to reflect the accrued Alpha Points. Dao Two was formed shortly thereafter and composed of all AP holders at the snapshot date. The first task offered up to the newly formed Dao Two was to define what the future utility of the Phase Blue Bulls would be. Ultimately it would end up being an investment in Xeno Mining NFTs generating regular wBTC income and rewarding holders with ‘Bullets’ tied to the wBTC and equating to roughly $90 per year per Bull (based on BTC at circa $27000 at the time of the announcement mind you, meaning that $90 would be worth much more in the anticipated bull run). August also brought about the introduction of Community member of the week where one worthy active member would be recognised and rewarded with a spin on the wheel of fortune!

Never happy to rest on his laurels, it was soon time for the unveiling of the Bourverse Karts! It was time to get the racing gloves on, bust out the avatars and do laps around the newly created Bourverse racetrack. 6 weeks of karting madness followed with weekly heats paying out 0.333 ETH and NFTs each week in prizes and more for the grand final week.

And then it started raining POOP…

That’s right, BBNFT now had its very own internal POOP token with bears and bulls accruing 100 POOP daily, a daily lootbox and various ways to earn, tip and basically poop all over everyone (in a good way)! The reward store was set up to redeem various NFTs or even ETH with POOP. At the time of writing 125,000 POOP will get you 0.05 ETH straight up and 225,000 POOP will get you a Space Riders NFT, with plenty of other goodies available in the store.

The POOP party was just starting to warm up when BITOBER was announced. An October like no other all tied to BTC and remember those Gateway Passes where further utility had been hinted at? That’s right, more utility! Four weeks of giveaways and contests all revolving around the Gateway Passes. Bears, Bulls and wBTC were dropped to various Pass holders each week, with the prizes getting bigger and bigger every week and culminating in the biggest giveaway ever in BBNFT history. 0.3 wBTC to one lucky holder and equating to a cool $10,000 at the time of the prize draw. As always Cryptoequip had the last word on all of it: “This is the biggest BBNFT Giveaway yet! And it will not be the biggest!!!”. Whaaaaaaat!?!?!

Hopefully the above gives you a taste for what BBNFT is all about and I marvel at what has been achieved in 8 short months. There are so many things I haven’t added or mentioned, as this would be a 10,000-word essay if I tried! To think that we’re only just at the beginning of this ride blows my fragile little mind.

Phase TWO is the next major event on the horizon and will be the first mass collection with 3333 hand drawn bears and bulls to look forward to! While I have focussed on the collections and events above, it would be remiss of me not to mention what I value most about this project and that is the community. From the very beginning, this project has attracted the most genuine, kind, caring and rocking people I have ever had the pleasure to associate with. Picking just one recent example, week two of BITOBER saw 3 finalists in the running for 0.1 wBTC with one winner taking all. That winner then gifted each of the two finalists with 0.01 wBTC apiece. That’s just how BBNFT is built. Cryptoequip has created something amazing, I am truly blessed to have discovered this community and I truly hope we retain this vibe once the masses flood in. With Cryptoequip, Dao One and Dao Two steering the ship, I am sure this community will only go from strength to strength. As for that question “Who is Cryptoequip?,” I’m convinced he’s Satoshi or Vitalik just looking to give back to Web3, otherwise he’s Matt Damon! Time to go stack some POOP!
